Grounds for PEACE III
The Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the DISC II programme and with it the capacity to engage local communities in peace and reconciliation through sport, DVD media, drama, local and world history, lobbying, committee work, health and nutrition, volunteering, youth work, public art, citizenship and many other community based activities. This programme has been supported by the EU’s PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. The program, launched at BURC’s annual general meeting on Friday 22nd June 2012, will be delivered through CONCENSUS, BURC’s learner led sustainable communities initiative. It will address peace and reconciliation, good relations and sectarianism as the pervasive issues which impact the sustainable development of Northern Ireland and the border regions of the Republic of Ireland as a fair and prosperous society where anyone would want to live and make their living. DISC II is a development from two previous, very successful, PEACE III projects which engaged 3057 people in similar activities and processes since mid-2009.
